In your footsteps

In the event that the association does not obtain permission to open the school, or that the project is cancelled or abandoned, the funds raised will be reallocated to another project chosen by the fund. Any donor who makes a donation to this project accepts this condition.

Agnès and Nicolas HITTIN, the happy parents of 5 children, including Clémence, a 14-year-old girl with Down's syndrome, believe in the right of every child to a suitable establishment where he or she can blossom, gain self-confidence, learn, move forward, and project themselves into a future where difference should never be an obstacle to happiness.

The facts

At present, the solutions available for educating children with learning disabilities are limited to medical-educational establishments (IME) or local school inclusion units (ULIS). On the one hand, IMEs offer very limited schooling, and are places where the young person has to adapt to the program and the way it works. In inclusive schools, the level is often elitist and not adapted to all children. The context can be difficult for young adolescents, who may suffer because of their difference.

By talking to other parents and professionals, Agnès and Nicolas realized that there was a lack of small structures where everyone could be catered for.

A school for everyone

Inspired by other similar structures that have proved their worth, the Dans tes pas association wants to support the creation of small schools for mentally handicapped young people aged 12 to 18.

  • With a small number of students (10), in a warm, caring and reassuring environment.
  • Implement personalized learning.
  • Giving young people confidence.
  • Develop their skills and qualities through workshops tailored to their personal development.
  • Prepare and guide towards vocational training if possible.
  • Open a "pilot" school in the Versailles area.

Structure information

Agnès and Nicolas HITTIN are the proud parents of five children, including Clémence, the second of the siblings, who is fourteen and has Down's Syndrome.

Clémence attended kindergarten for two years in an ordinary environment, then joined an association school: "Aime la vie" until she was twelve.
Difficulties in finding a place in an IME led the parents to opt for a ULIS collège.

Unfortunately, Clémence couldn't get used to the new environment. The school asked them to withdraw their daughter during the year. Clémence was out of school for eight months.

These difficulties in finding an establishment for their daughter made them realize that there was a lack of small, adapted structures for young people with intellectual disabilities.

The "Dans tes pas" association was born of a desire to found a small, innovative school on a human scale.
