École de la Mhotte is a private school using the Steiner-Waldorf pedagogy. It welcomes around 125 pupils from kindergarten to class 10, i.e. from nursery school to the end of secondary school, with double-level classes. Since 1979, the school has been based at the Château de la Mhotte in Saint-Menoux, in the heart of the Bocage Bourbonnais in the Allier department: the estate offers a privileged setting for pupils and teaching, with its wooded park surrounded by a large wood criss-crossed by paths. This direct link to nature has fostered a rich culture of seasonal festivities. Together with neighboring homes and farms, the school aims to form a forward-looking hamlet where children and adults can learn to grow together.
The school is organized as an association. As an independent private school, it receives no public funding. It therefore relies on tuition fees, donations and voluntary work for its operations. Families are involved in a coeducational approach with the teaching team, and their commitment is essential to the life of the school (participation in the upkeep of the premises and grounds, and in festivities).
École de la Mhotte is affiliated to and certified by the Fédération Pédagogie Steiner-Waldorf in France.
