Creation of a diploma course for pupils at the Waldorf school in Les Sorgues

  • Launch of the first class of dual-curriculum students, graduating in June 2027.
  • First degree after two years of study in June 2027
  • Additional cost per pupil between €1,440 and €1,825 / year
  • Operating costs (salaries and other) for the first 5 years (estimated) €21,000 per year. This sum is partly covered by the tuition fees paid for students enrolled in the diploma program, but requires external support until enough students are enrolled.

Enhance the high-school curriculum at the Waldorf school in Les Sorgues with an "American baccalaureate" or "high-school diploma" and enable students to go on to higher education.

The project

École des Sorgues aims to enable its top students to complete their schooling, receiving a diploma that enables them to continue their higher education in France or abroad. At present, the school is closing after 11 years.

To encourage students to discover the world and its different cultures, the school already offers a wide range of projects abroad, and now wishes to further develop its international profile with the creation of a new hybrid curriculum, combining classes and independent work, to be carried out both in and out of school.

Why an American "bac" (High-School Diploma)? Our partnership with the Clonlara American School offers a curriculum geared towards students' autonomy and creativity, as well as awareness and development of their individual abilities - values that the Waldorf School also promotes.

With this curriculum, our school aims to open up even further to other students from the region and abroad, who will be able to join the curriculum from the seconde year onwards, without having attended the school during the collège.

High School Diploma

The Clonlara School's OFF-Campus program, which leads to the "American Baccalaureate", was created in 1979 and offers students from all over the world the opportunity to follow a highly individualized curriculum that can be completed at school or at home. Today, the program is followed in over 70 countries by some 2,500 students. At the end of the course, students receive a diploma which allows them to go on to higher education, depending on the level they have reached.

The proposed program leaves plenty of freedom of choice to the student, to stimulate the motivation of young people to seek out by themselves the themes that fascinate them. The curriculum combined with our school will guarantee the acquisition of a core set of skills. It will also enable students to take advantage of support and resource people and proposals, encouraging students to be active lifelong learners, to be compassionate.

Financial support

As our school is not under contract, it has to be self-financing, as it is not subsidized by the state. It is therefore the parents who pay the tuition fees for their children, enabling the school to operate. Today, we're in financial equilibrium, but we don't have the means to develop major projects.

We are in the process of raising funds from donors. We have already raised €15,000, but we are looking for other donors to ensure the viability of this project.

We need financial support for the launch of this dual curriculum to relieve families of the burden of double tuition fees. Before reaching financial equilibrium (between 3 and 5 years), we need funds to secure operations.

Structure information

L'école des Sorgues has been in existence for 30 years, and each year welcomes around 250 students from kindergarten (2 1/2 years old) to high school (17 years old), taught by some 30 teachers. The school is located in Avignon, a multicultural university town.
The school has classrooms in a wooded setting, handicraft workshops, an art room, two small auditoriums, a language room and a science room.
The school is an association under the French law of 1901, administered by parents, teachers and administrative staff. It implements the Waldorf pedagogy, whose movement counts some 1,200 schools and 1,900 kindergartens worldwide.
Our pedagogy allows children to develop at their own pace. We offer subjects that stimulate the three poles: head, hand and heart. Learning is concrete and lively, and children can experiment.
For our older students, developing their own values, leading to free thinking, is at the heart of our pedagogy! Several projects are designed to help them discover the world, surpass themselves, gain autonomy and prepare for life in society.
